Shorts Rolex GMT-Master II 126710GRNR Black Grey Bezel VS Factory Super Clone Shorts

VS Factory Rolex GMT-Master II 126710GRNR Root Beer — Hands-On Breakdown

So VS dropped their version of the 126710GRNR. The "Root Beer bezel" GMT-Master II — or if you're in certain circles, the "century egg" bezel. Been waiting on this one. Let me walk you through what they got right, where they pulled ahead of Clean, and whether it's actually worth the hype.

Size and Weight — The Numbers That Matter

Right off the bat, here's what the calipers say.

Spec Measurement
Weight 140g
Case diameter 40.1mm
Thickness 12.1mm

Now thickness is the big deal here. VS re-tooled the case from scratch for this release. 12.1mm. That's the thinnest you'll find on any rep of this reference right now. Clean's version sits around 12.5mm — doesn't sound like much on paper, but you feel it on wrist. It's one of those details that pushes this closer to gen spec than anything else out there.

The Bezel — This Is Where It Gets Interesting

Case is 904L steel. Finishing is sharp, good weight to it, lugs have proper definition. Lume plots on the dial are round with a nice dome shape. Standard stuff done well.

But the bezel. That's the whole point of this watch.

VS went with a smaller minute track on the insert compared to Clean. Side by side, Clean's is slightly oversized. VS nailed the proportion here — closer to what you'd see on a gen 126710GRNR.

The black-to-grey colour transition on this ceramic insert is seamless. One-piece construction, no visible seam, gradient looks natural. I've handled a few of these now and the colour shift is genuinely hard to fault. Bezel action is firm, clicks are defined, zero wobble. Clean's has a tiny bit of play if you push it — not a dealbreaker, but VS tightened that up completely on this batch.

Best bezel insert on a rep GMT right now? Yeah, I'd say so.

Dial and Crystal

Sapphire crystal is clean. Good clarity, no distortion.

Cyclops is gen-correct — white AR coating, proper magnification, date font underneath is crisp. No complaints there.

The green GMT hand really pops. Colour matching is spot on, which honestly hasn't always been the case with rep GMTs. Dial printing has a subtle raised texture that catches light nicely. Gives it depth. Hands are solid center-pinion type, surfaces are polished clean without any rough edges or burrs. Hour markers have bevelled edges, proper 3D look to them.

Looks right. Feels right.

Bracelet and Clasp

Jubilee bracelet — centre links polished, outer links brushed. Transition between finishes is smooth, no harsh lines. Comfortable on wrist straight out of the box, which isn't always a given.

Clasp engravings are deep and legible. Micro-adjust has 3 positions. Closure is tight with no rattle or gap. Little things, but they add up.

Movement — Dandong 3285

Under the hood it's the Dandong-made 3285 clone. Same movement Clean uses, for what it's worth. Power reserve sits around 70 hours give or take.

Here's the thing though — this movement has been on the market for over two years now. It's proven. Reliability feedback across the rep community has been consistently positive. If you're looking at 3285 clones, this is the one with the best track record. Full stop.

Crack it open and the layout matches gen. Two pillars — left one thicker, right one gold-toned — positioned correctly. Other factories get this wrong. Balance wheel shock absorber orientation is also correct. Finishing on the plates, the engravings, all clean. Looks the part and runs like it should.

Crown Operation

Quick rundown on functionality:

  • Unscrew crown counterclockwise to unlock
  • Push and wind clockwise for manual winding
  • Pull to first click — date adjust, works both directions
  • Pull to second click — time setting
  • Push back in and screw down clockwise to lock

Everything operates exactly like gen. Smooth, no grinding, date changes snap clean.

Final Thoughts

Not gonna sugarcoat it — VS really did their homework on this 126710GRNR. The 12.1mm case thickness alone sets it apart. Add the improved bezel insert, tighter tolerances on the click action, and a movement with two years of proven reliability… it's a strong package.

If you've been going back and forth between this and the Clean version, the VS edges it out on most measurable points. Especially that bezel transition and the slimmer case profile.

Hit me up if you have questions. Always happy to help.

Been wearing this for a few days now and honestly it’s growing on me fast. The grey/black combo is way more versatile than I expected.

Probably my new everyday watch.

Just received my 126710GRNR from this site last week and honestly wasn’t expecting it to look this clean in person. The grey/black bezel looks more subtle than Pepsi or Batman, which I actually prefer for daily wear.

The Jubilee bracelet feels comfortable and not too sharp on the wrist. GMT hand adjustment works smoothly and the date magnification looks right to my eyes. Lume is decent at night as well.

Shipping took about 12 days to the UK. Overall pretty happy with it so far.
