VS Factory Panerai Radiomir PAM01292 Review – Finally a 40mm PAM That Fits

Panerai and small wrists? Yeah, those two don't usually go together. Most PAMs sit at 44mm or above and just eat up your wrist if you're under 7 inches. That's been the reality for a long time in the rep game.

But this one's different. The VS Factory PAM01292 from the Radiomir line comes in at 40mm. Actual wearable size. I've had a bunch of people asking about smaller Panerai options so figured it was time to do a proper breakdown on this ref.

Case and Dimensions

Measured it myself — 40mm across, 13.1mm thick. Both numbers line up with gen specs, no deviation there.

Full 316L stainless steel case, polished all around. The finishing has that classic Radiomir look to it. Clean lines, no crown guard bridge like on the Luminor side. If you know Panerai you can spot a Radiomir from across the room just by the case shape alone.

Two-and-a-half hand layout — hour, minute, and a small seconds subdial. Nothing busy about it. Super clean dial design that just works.

Dial Details

Cream white colorway with the sandwich dial construction. That's the double-layer structure where the lume shines through cutouts on the top layer — signature Radiomir stuff and honestly one of the best-looking dial designs in the watch world, gen or rep.

All indices and hands are filled with luminous material. The lume fires up in a fluorescent green, pretty bright and consistent. No overflow or messy edges on the fill. Hands are clean too, zero burrs, and the rose gold tone matches up well. Put it next to a gen reference and you'd have a hard time calling out differences at a glance.

Date window is properly sized, font looks right, date disc sits centered with no obvious misalignment.

Crown and Functions

So VS dropped the crown guard on this one, which is correct for the Radiomir design. Unscrew by turning counter-clockwise. Wind it by turning clockwise — straightforward manual winding.

Pull to first position: quick-set hour hand. Rotate clockwise past 12 and the date jumps. You can go backwards too. Occasionally the date might sit slightly high after adjustment — that's a movement quirk, not a defect. QC tries to get it centered before shipping and in most cases it's fine.

Pull to second position: standard time setting. Nothing complicated.

Worth noting — that first-position quick hour jump is actually one way to verify you've got a VS build. Not every factory replicates this function.

Strap and Caseback

Comes on a cowhide leather strap. Decent thickness, feels solid enough on wrist. If you want something a bit more premium, swapping to a croc strap makes a noticeable difference in comfort and look.

Solid caseback. Engravings are sharp and well-defined, no complaints there. Everything reads clean.

Movement

Here's the deal with the movement. VS uses a modified P.9010 base with the rotor and engravings redone to read P.900, matching what the gen carries. The balance wheel position doesn't perfectly mirror the genuine P.900 layout — that's just how it is with this caliber across the rep market right now.

But here's why it doesn't really matter: solid caseback. Nobody's seeing the movement unless you pop the back off. And functionally everything checks out — quick-set hour, manual winding, date change, all working as they should. VS movements have had a solid track record for reliability so daily wear isn't a concern.

Bottom Line

The VS Factory Panerai Radiomir PAM01292 fills a real gap. 40mm case size that doesn't overwhelm smaller wrists, vintage two-and-a-half hand design, sandwich dial, and the kind of build quality VS is known for. Dial accuracy, lume performance, functional parity with gen — it's all there. The solid caseback is actually a plus here since it hides the one area where there's room for improvement.

If you've been wanting a PAM but your wrist kept saying no, this might be the one. Hit up vsfwatcheshub if you've got questions about the VS Panerai Radiomir PAM01292 — always happy to help.
