The Apollo 8 style caseback animation works properly — press the pusher and the spacecraft slides out on the linked disc, the small earth rotates with the running seconds. The flaw is real though: the six o'clock register is wired to the hour hand, so it drifts when you set the time and doesn't sit at twelve when the chronograph is reset. Open the caseback and look for three things. Blue screws — genuine 3861 doesn't use them, and the Seagull-based movements do. An added bridge plate sitting above the base movement, which is the whole reason these run 2mm thick. And the general architecture: the Seagull ST has more visible gear train than the genuine caliber, which honestly makes it more mechanical-looking, just not correct. If you can't open it, use the chronograph. Reset it, then let the watch run for an hour. If the chronograph hour hand has moved off twelve on its own, it's not a real 3861 layout.

Beyond that, be careful with any listing that won't name a factory at all — on a model where the movement is the entire weak point, a seller staying vague about it is telling you something. BT's version is honestly built and looks good; my issue is with sellers marketing it as a tooled 3861 rather than with the watch itself.
