VS Factory Panerai Submersible PAM00985 — What Actually Makes It Different from the 984?

I get this question all the time. "Isn't the 985 just a refreshed 984?" Nope. Totally different series. The PAM00985 is a limited edition piece, while the 984 is the standard production version. Both available in the rep world obviously, and VS Factory has the best version of either. Not even close right now.

985 vs 984 — Where It Actually Matters

So the whole concept behind the 985 is sustainability. Panerai went with an eco angle on this one and it shows in two places.

The strap is a blue resin eco-material. Feels completely different from your typical rubber. And the case — this isn't the regular titanium you get on the 984. It's a higher-spec eco-titanium alloy. Better color, harder, and somehow lighter. Gen Panerai really pushed material science on this ref and VS nailed the replication.

Build Quality and the Details

46.5mm case diameter. Roughly 15.4mm thick. The finishing across the whole watch is solid.

Flip it over and you'll see the limited edition engraving on the caseback — "L019/019" meaning 19 pieces worldwide. Nice touch that VS kept this accurate.

Unidirectional counterclockwise bezel. The action feels smooth and natural, good clicks with a clean crisp sound. Sapphire crystal on front with the logo and text etched on the inner side. Consistent with gen.

Lume Shot

Two lume colors on this one. Hour markers glow green in the dark. The pip and ten-minute markers go blue. The dual-color lume matches gen and honestly looks pretty sick at night. High visibility too.

Movement

VS P9000 clone inside. If you've been around the rep community for a while you already know this movement. Reliable, proven, good power reserve. Nothing else to add — it just works.

Setting Time and Date

Quick rundown. Open the crown guard, wind up by turning clockwise. Pull to first position — rotate two full turns to cycle the date. Works both directions. Pull to second position for time setting, clockwise or counterclockwise, your call. Push everything back in, lock the crown guard down. Done.

The PAM00985 is one of those refs that stands out a bit in the Panerai Submersible lineup. Limited edition status, eco-titanium build, the blue resin strap — it's got character.
