So this one's been on my desk for a bit now. The VS Factory Panerai Submersible PAM01669. 47mm of titanium and carbon fiber. If you're into big military-style Panerais, you already know why this ref gets attention.

Let me walk you through it.

Case & Bezel

Titanium case. Carbon fiber bezel. That's the combo here, and it matters — because at 47mm, a steel case this size would feel like a brick on your wrist. The titanium keeps things surprisingly manageable.

The bezel rotates counterclockwise only. Standard diver logic. Line up the 12 o'clock marker with the minute hand and you've got yourself a basic elapsed-time tracker. Nothing fancy, just functional. VS nailed the click feel on this one, it's not sloppy at all.

Dial

Gradient black dial. Not flat black — there's a subtle fade from center to edge that gives it some depth under different lighting. The hour markers and hands are filled with brownish-yellow lume, which honestly gives the whole thing a vintage military vibe. Looks great in person.

No central seconds hand on this one. Your running seconds live on the small subdial at 9 o'clock — that little hand ticking away is your seconds. Takes a day to get used to if you're coming from a sub-style layout, but it's classic Panerai.

Date window sits at 3 o'clock. Clean cutout, easy to read.

Caseback

Solid caseback — no exhibition window on this ref. What you do get is an engraved U.S. Marine Corps insignia on the back. The engraving is sharp and well-defined, not mushy like some other factories do. Nice detail that adds to the military theme of the whole piece.

Movement — P9010

Here's where it gets interesting. VS put their custom P9010 clone inside this one. Double barrel, bidirectional winding. Power reserve? 72 hours — wait, actually the spec on this particular build is 60 hours. Still more than enough for a weekend off the wrist.

One thing you need to know before you start setting it: date is adjusted by quick-setting the hour hand, not by pulling the crown to a date position. So you cycle the hour hand past midnight, the date jumps. It's how the gen P.9010 works too. Just be aware of it so you don't force anything.

Strap & Buckle

The strap is a two-layer deal. Top layer is a woven fabric with a water-resistant coating, underside is rubber. Comfortable against skin, doesn't trap sweat the way full leather does. Buckle is a simple pin buckle — no deployant, no folding clasp. Keeps the profile slim and the overall look clean.

Some guys swap these out for aftermarket rubber or NATO straps. Works fine either way.

The VS Factory PAM01669 hits a sweet spot if you want something big, bold, and not another Submariner. Titanium keeps the weight in check, the carbon bezel adds texture, and that gradient dial with warm lume just works. The P9010 clone runs solid from what I've seen.
