VS Factory Omega Seamaster 150M 220.10.41.21.03.005 — The Poseidon Closed Caseback Special Edition

So VS dropped something a little different this time. It's their Seamaster 150M teak dial again, but in a noticeably lighter blue — think of it as the "teak light blue" compared to the deep blue they've been putting out for a while now. That color shift is nice, sure. But that's not what caught my attention.

This one has a closed caseback. First time VS has done that on the 150M teak line.

Poseidon Caseback — Not Your Usual 150M

Flip it over and you get the Poseidon engraving, the god holding his trident. It's a special edition ref from Omega's lineup and VS finally got around to repping it. Every other 150M teak they've released before this was display back, so the closed caseback here actually fills a gap that's been there for a while.

Movement: Clone 8900, Same Story

Movement-wise, no surprises. VS is running their clone 8900 in this, same as every other 150M they make. Now I'll be straight with you — calling it a "clone" is generous. It's more of a semi-clone at best. The exterior dressing looks close to a gen Cal.8900, but literally none of the parts are interchangeable with the genuine movement. Zero.

Look closely at the balance wheel, pallet fork, escapement — all different from gen. VS also added a regulator, which the authentic 8500 doesn't have since it uses a free-sprung five-beat design. So yeah, it does the job, the hand-winding and date-change functions work as expected, but don't mistake it for a true 1:1 clone on the inside.

Since it's a closed back though, none of that is visible day to day. You'll only really notice when you're setting the time — pull the crown out, the hour hand moves independently and kicks the date over. Classic clone 8500/8900 behavior.

Dial Finishing — VS Has Gotten Better, No Question

Here's where I want to give credit. VS has been making the 150M teak for a bunch of iterations now and the finishing has genuinely improved over time.

The beveling on the Ω logo is way better than it used to be. Early batches? Harsh, sharp edges that looked almost industrial. This batch has smooth, rounded transitions. Night and day difference honestly. The indices got the same treatment — clean beveling, no visible burrs under a loupe.

Hands are clean too. Minimal burr, the brushed-to-polished transitions look decent.

Lume application is even across the dial with no bleeding or overflow — that's a QC win right there. Color is a pale blue lume which pairs well with the light blue dial. Brightness is solid, nothing to complain about.

Bracelet, Clasp, Case — Consistent

Bracelet polishing, clasp action, case finishing. All in line with what VS has been putting out on their other 150M teak refs. Steady work here, no regression, no major leap either. Just solid.

The Date Window Thing

Alright, the elephant in the room for anyone who's owned a VS Seamaster teak — the date alignment pulls slightly left. Still happening on this ref. Single digit dates are the worst offenders, double digits look a bit more centered. It's been a known issue across this entire line for a while and it hasn't been fixed. Minor annoyance, won't bother everyone, but it's there.

Color Accuracy

Didn't have a second factory's version on hand for a side-by-side, so I can't give you a definitive verdict on color accuracy. From experience though, VS dials always carry some degree of color deviation from gen — the light blue, deep blue, green, all of them. It's just the nature of aftermarket dial production when you're not working from the original tooling. Not a dealbreaker for most people, just set your expectations accordingly.

Bottom Line

The VS Factory Omega Seamaster 150M 220.10.41.21.03.005 is basically VS filling in a missing piece — the Poseidon closed caseback that their teak lineup didn't have before. Light blue dial is a refreshing colorway. Build quality reflects the improvements VS has made over successive batches: better beveling, cleaner lume, improved hand finishing. The clone 8900 is what it is, and the date alignment issue persists. But if you've been waiting for a no-display-back version of the VS Seamaster 150M teak? This is it. Only game in town right now.
