VSF Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra GMT 231.10.43.22.01.001 – Hands-On Review

VSF has been killing it with the Seamaster 150M Aqua Terra line for a while now. So when they dropped a GMT version — ref 231.10.43.22.01.001 — I had to get my hands on it. Basically takes everything good about the classic AT150 and adds a second timezone complication. Got both colorways in, spent some real time with them. Here's the breakdown.

Dial & Design

If you've owned or handled any AT150 rep before, the case shape and bracelet will feel instantly familiar. Same proportions, same finishing approach. The real change is all on the dial.

You get a full 24-hour GMT track around the outer edge now, and there's an extra hand — a triangle-tipped GMT pointer sitting right in the center stack. That's your second timezone indicator.

The vertical teak pattern on the black dial? Still looks fantastic. Deep texture, catches light well. Sapphire crystal has the AR blue coating and it's genuinely clear — you almost forget there's glass there under certain angles.

Movement: Clone Cal.8605

OK so this is where it gets interesting for the nerds.

VSF fitted this one with their clone 8605 movement. If you're already familiar with the 8500 clone they've been using in the regular AT, the 8605 is essentially the same architecture — just with the GMT module added on top. Not a franken job. Not a decorated Asian movement with a fancy rotor. A proper clone.

Few things worth pointing out:

  • Balance wheel at 6 o'clock position, black balance — matches gen layout
  • Every gear in the train is functional, not just for show
  • Bi-directional automatic winding, efficient and smooth
  • All screw positions are real. Zoom in, they hold up
  • Case back engravings and lug-side serial numbers actually match the movement markings — small detail but tells you someone was paying attention

This isn't one of those movements where they slap a printed plate over a Miyota and call it a day. The 8605 clone has been through enough iterations at this point that reliability isn't really a concern anymore. Solid track record.

How the GMT Actually Works

Screw-down crown, similar feel to a Rolex sub. Unscrew it and wind clockwise to build up power reserve.

Pull to first position — hour hand jumps independently. Date at 6 o'clock follows along. Works both directions.

Pull to second position — now you're setting the main time. But here's the thing, this is also how you position the GMT hand.

Say you want your second timezone set to London while you're in New York. Pull to position two, rotate the GMT hand to the correct hour on the 24h track, push the crown back in, then pull to position one and set your local hour hand. Done. Two timezones established. Whole operation mirrors how the gen piece works — no shortcuts, no fake pushers.

Real talk though, most people buying a GMT rep probably won't use the function daily. But knowing it actually works the same as the genuine? That matters.

Case Finishing & Wrist Presence

41mm case diameter. Wears well on most wrists — not too chunky, not disappearing either.

Brushing on the case sides is clean. Lines are straight, consistent, no weird transitions between polished and brushed surfaces. This is one of those areas where VSF has always been ahead of most other factories and it shows here too.

Black vs Blue — Quick Take

Got both the black and blue dial variants. The black is your everyday safe pick, works with anything, very versatile. The blue though... that's the one that gets the second looks. Has that classic Bond energy to it. If you know, you know.

Honestly hard to go wrong with either.

Final Thoughts

The VSF Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra GMT 231.10.43.22.01.001 is a legit upgrade over the standard AT150 — you keep the clean design language everyone likes, but now with a working GMT complication backed by a proper clone 8605 movement. Fit, finishing, functional accuracy — all top tier from what I've seen.

If the AT line has always been on your radar and you want something with a bit more going on, this ref deserves a serious look.

The black textured dial looks great and the updated case size is correct now. Same quick hour setting for the GMT and date is a nice touch too.
