VS Factory Panerai Radiomir PAM01386 — Full Breakdown (40mm No Crown Guard)

So VS Factory — or technically their sub-brand Superocean Factory, but let's be real, everyone still calls it VS — dropped this 40mm Radiomir PAM01386. Three dials available right now: white, black, and olive green.

If you've followed VS Panerai reps at all, you know they've been doing 42, 44, even 47mm cases for years. Always with the crown guard. This one ditches the bridge entirely and shrinks down to 40mm. Totally different vibe on wrist.

Dial Quality Up Close

The dial finishing is solid. Hour markers are recessed, not raised — and the lume fill inside those recesses is nice and thick. Green dial does have a slight color variance compared to gen, just being upfront about that. White and black don't have this issue. But that sunburst texture on the olive green? Genuinely impressive. Looks expensive.

Lume performance is strong. Those recessed markers with the generous lume application really pay off in low light.

Case and Build

Classic Panerai sandwich case construction, three layers. No complaints on the case shape. Sapphire crystal is synthetic with good clarity, and the dome height sits where it should. Without the crown guard the whole watch wears smaller than you'd expect from the specs.

Strap Connection

Worth mentioning — the strap attachment is different from older VS Panerais. No spring bars here. It's a screw-through lug system, you need to undo the screws to swap the strap. Leather is cowhide, runs stiff out of the box. Give it a week or two.

Caseback

Engravings on the back are all present. Got the familiar numbered sticker (this one's #12). Water resistance is rated 30m — that's splash-proof territory. Don't take it swimming.

Movement: P9500

Pop the caseback and you're looking at a P9500. It's based on the Chinese P9000 clone — semi-custom with modified visible wheels. Looks decent when you open it up, honestly.

Few things to know about how it runs:

The seconds hand doesn't hack to zero when you pull the crown. Gen does. That's a tell if anyone's checking. Time setting direction is correct though — pull down goes clockwise, push up goes counter. Date changeover is the slow-jump type, starts creeping around 10:30 and doesn't fully flip until midnight. Standard P9000 behavior. You set the date by running the hour hand around twice. Minute hand has a tiny bit of wobble during adjustment — another P9000 quirk, nothing unusual.

Screw the crown back down after you're done or your 30m water resistance means nothing.

The PAM01386 fills a gap in VS Factory's Panerai lineup. Smaller wrists finally get a proper option without the crown guard bulk. Leather strap with pin buckle works fine for dressier fits too. The P9000-based movement has its quirks — slow-jump date, minor hand wobble — but that's the trade-off with this caliber and everybody in the rep community knows it. Dial work and lume are the highlights here. If you're going olive green just know about the possible color shift. Play it safe with white or black if that bothers you.
