VS Factory Panerai Submersible PAM02231 – Carbon Fiber Build, Full Breakdown

Alright guys, got a new one in from VS Factory. The PAM02231, 42mm, full carbon fiber case. This is actually a pretty recent ref from Panerai — gen just dropped it not long ago and VS already has it out. Let me walk you through what they did with this piece.

The Carbon Fiber Case

First thing you notice picking this up: it's light. Like, noticeably light. The entire case is carbon fiber, bezel included. VS went with the striped carbon weave on this one (Panerai also does a forged/shattered pattern on other refs — different look, same weight). The bezel serrations are evenly machined, clicks are crisp, and yeah you can rotate it one-handed no problem.

Crown guard is carbon fiber too. Pop it open, wind the crown, you get that satisfying clicking feedback. Nothing loose.

Dial and Lume

Black dial. Small subdial on the left is your running seconds in blue. No GMT hand on this ref — just hours and minutes, both lumed.

Here's where it gets interesting though. VS nailed the dual-color lume on this one. The lume pip and minute hand glow blue, everything else — hour markers, hour hand — glows green. The pip itself is fat, round, properly shaped. Not the wonky flat dots you see from other factories. Most smaller factories don't even bother getting the two-tone lume right. VS did.

Why VS Factory — The Movement Thing

This is the real reason you go VS for any Panerai rep. It's a clone movement, fully integrated. What does that mean in practice? Pull the crown to the first position and you adjust the date by rotating the hands — two full turns to advance one day. Overshoot it? Just wind back. Pull to position two for time setting. Screw it back down toward the crown guard and you're sealed up, water resistant.

Other factories? You pull the crown and the date just jumps. Completely wrong behavior compared to gen. That alone kills it for me. If you're spending on a Panerai rep, get the one that actually works like the real thing.

Strap and Clasp

VS ships this with their standard rubber strap. Soft on both sides, no complaints. The clasp engravings are deep and sharp — legit looks clean. One detail I appreciate: the four corners of the clasp have been rounded off. No sharp edges digging into your wrist. Small thing but you notice it after a full day of wear.

Caseback

Sapphire display back, decent transparency. There's a slight blue AR coating — tilt it under light and you catch that blue tint. The crystal also has a very subtle fish-eye curvature to it when viewed at an angle. Gen does the same thing. Again, details that most factories skip entirely.

On Wrist — Who Should Buy This

Let's be real. Panerai is a big watch brand. Even at 42mm this thing wears chunky. If your wrist is on the thinner side — sub 17cm or so — it's gonna look like a brick. Works best on larger wrists, stockier builds. That's just how Panerai goes.

Final Take

VS Factory has basically covered the entire Panerai lineup at this point. We're talking close to a hundred refs. Carbon, titanium, steel — they do it all. This PAM02231 checks the boxes: lightweight carbon case, correct dual-color lume, clone movement with proper date adjustment. Solid release. If you're into Panerai reps, VS is the only factory worth looking at. Not much else to say.
