VS Factory Panerai Radiomir PAM01294 – Full Hands-On Review

So Panerai has always been that brand where if your wrist is under 7 inches, you're basically out of luck. Everything's massive. But this one? The VS Factory Panerai Radiomir PAM01294 sits at just 40mm. That's small for a PAM. And the vintage vibe on this thing is honestly really nice.

Let me walk you through what I found.

Case & Dimensions

Measured it myself — 40mm across, 13.1mm thick. Both numbers line up with gen specs, no issues there. The case is 316L stainless steel, fully polished. Classic two-piece-and-a-half construction. Clean, simple. Nothing overdone.

Dial

Black dial with a subtle sunburst effect — you can catch it under normal lighting if you look. Sandwich dial structure. All indices and hands are lumed, and the lume color is a greenish tone. Pretty bright actually.

Lume application is clean, no overflow. Hand edges are well finished with no burrs. The rose gold color matching is spot on. I put it next to gen pics and honestly? Good luck finding a difference.

Date Window

Size matches. Font matches. Centered properly, no alignment drift. Not much else to say — they nailed it.

Crown Operation

This ref drops the bridge guard design that older PAMs had. You unscrew the crown by turning it the opposite direction. Push up to wind. Pull out one click and you get a quick-set hour hand — two full turns advances the date by one day. And yes it supports reverse adjustment, which is correct to gen.

One thing worth mentioning though. When you're adjusting, the hands have a slight tremor. That's a movement characteristic — VS hasn't cracked that yet. Not a dealbreaker. When the hour hand crosses 12, the date snaps over instantly. That part's done right.

Strap

Comes on a calfskin leather strap. Thick. A bit stiff out of the box. Personally I think swapping to a croc strap would make it way more comfortable on wrist.

Caseback

Solid caseback, no exhibition window. Which means fewer tells — nobody's seeing the movement. The engravings around the edge are deep and crisp. Well done.

Movement

VS dropped a P.9000 clone in this one. Gen runs a P.900 caliber. VS re-engraved the movement plates to match, but the balance wheel position is slightly different. Doesn't matter much since you'll never see it through the solid back.

Functionally it's all there — reverse date adjust, the two-turn date advance, everything works as it should. Reliability? VS has built their rep on consistency and quality control. I'm not worried about this movement at all.

Bottom Line

The VS Factory Panerai Radiomir PAM01294 is one of those pieces that fills a gap. If you've always wanted a PAM but your wrist said no — this is the one. 40mm wears easy, the vintage Radiomir look is killer, and VS did their homework on the details.
