VS Factory Panerai LUMINOR 1950 PAM00661 Super Clone — Hands-On Review

Alright so let's get into this one. VS Factory just dropped a new piece — the Panerai 1950 series PAM00661. Been waiting to get my hands on it.

Size and Wrist Fit

44mm case diameter. It's a big watch, no way around that. Thickness clocks in at roughly 17mm at the thickest point, about 16mm at the thinnest. If your wrist is under 16.5cm you're gonna have a hard time pulling this off. Honestly just go with a 42mm model instead. Save yourself the trouble.

The Carbon Fiber Case

Case material is carbon fiber, same as gen. Three things I like about it — it's light, it looks different from your typical steel watches, and it barely picks up scratches. Day to day wear? You won't see marks on it.

The downside though. Carbon fiber is brittle. One solid drop and it could crack. And once it cracks that's it — no repair, full case replacement. Gets expensive quick. Ceramic cases have the same problem honestly.

Construction-wise VS nailed the three-piece case structure just like the gen. Upper bezel is removable and rotatable. The carbon weave pattern on the sides looks legit, lugs have good depth to the cuts. No complaints here.

Dial

Pure black dial with a little blue small seconds hand for contrast. Gives it just enough of a sporty vibe without overdoing it.

The lume fill has that warm yellowish patina tone — kind of like vintage pieces. And it's applied thick, very three-dimensional. Looks proper.

Caseback engravings and text are bold and clear, lines up with gen. One thing I did notice — the hand edges show some very slight roughness when you look from the side. Head on you won't catch it. Nitpicking really.

Functions

Crown operation is identical to gen. Pull to first position for time setting, second position for date. Push back in to wind, screw down to lock. Simple stuff.

Date changeover is the slow-jump type. Starts transitioning around 11pm, fully flipped by midnight. Same behavior as the authentic P.9010 movement.

Caseback and Strap

Flip it over. Caseback finishing is on point — brushed texture, teeth alignment all matches gen specs.

Strap is a softer calfskin. Way more supple compared to the crazy horse leather you see on some other PAM reps. Feels good on wrist right out of the box. Trade-off is it marks up easier, might even show some surface peeling over time. Buckle is a standard tang. Hang tag number matches the caseback serial which is what you want to see.

Movement — Here's Where It Gets Interesting

So the gen PAM00661 runs a P.9010 caliber. VS doesn't have a P.9010 clone yet. What they're using is a P.9000 base movement with the rotor engravings modified to look the part.

The tell? Balance wheel position. Gen P.9010 has it at 11 o'clock. VS puts it at 7 o'clock. If anyone ever opens the caseback that's the giveaway. VS still hasn't cracked the P.9010 or the OPXXXIV calibers. Bit of a bummer but it is what it is right now.

Bottom Line

Build quality on this VS Factory PAM00661 is top tier. Carbon case, dial work, functional accuracy — all solidly executed. Strap feels great. The only real gap is that movement layout difference with the balance wheel position. Everything else tracks with gen.
