Shorts VS Panerai Submersible PAM00961 Carbotech 47mm Green Dial Super Clone Shorts

VS Factory Panerai Submersible PAM00961 – Full Hands-On Review

VS Factory dropped a whole batch of new Submersible refs this year. PAM00961 is one of the standouts. The gen is a globally limited piece — only 33 made. Same deal as the PAM00985 which was capped at 15 units worldwide. Crazy numbers.

Here's a fun fact about the gen. If you actually managed to buy one at retail, Panerai would give you access to exclusive training sessions with the Italian Navy's COMSUBIN — their elite underwater commando unit. That's the kind of brand experience no other watchmaker on the planet can offer you. Says a lot about how deep the Panerai-Italian Navy relationship really goes.

First Impressions — This Thing Looks Incredible

OK let me just get this out of the way. The PAM00961 from VS Factory is a seriously good looking watch.

The dial is done in a camo black pattern that pairs with the carbon fiber case — and honestly it works. Not in a try-hard way either. It just clicks. The strap is military green rubber, and they matched the lume on the indices, hour markers, minute hand and seconds hand all in the same dark green tone. Very cohesive. Very tactical without being tacky.

For a proper dive watch with 300m+ water resistance spec on the gen, pulling off this level of visual appeal isn't easy. Most dive watches either look like tools or look like fashion pieces. This one somehow lands in both camps. Wrist presence is massive and the compliments — yeah you'll get them.

Carbon Fiber Case — Why It Matters on Wrist

The case material is a big part of what makes this ref special. It's a carbon composite that Panerai markets as recyclable and sustainable. Every major brand from MB&F to the automotive world is pushing this direction now, and Panerai's been on it for a while.

But forget the marketing angle for a second. What actually matters to you as a wearer?

47mm case diameter. 15.5mm thick. Those are big numbers on paper. Should feel like a brick right? Nope. Carbon fiber is stupid light. You put this on your wrist and it genuinely feels like nothing is there. No wrist fatigue after a full day. If you're the type who loves a big dial but hates heavy watches — carbon Submersible is basically made for you.

Classic Panerai DNA — All Present

VS didn't cut corners on the heritage details. Everything you'd expect from a Submersible is here:

The crown guard bridge — that lever-lock system is pure Panerai. Sandwich dial construction with the double-layer lume effect. Small seconds subdial at 9 o'clock with the torpedo-style hand. Unidirectional rotating bezel with solid click action, not mushy at all.

Buckle is a simple tang, nothing fancy. Gets the job done. Flip it over and the caseback engraving is clean — you get the COMSUBIN insignia and Italian text all properly executed. No complaints on finishing.

Movement and Day-to-Day Use

Under the hood it's the P9000 clone that VS has been using across their PAM lineup. Gen runs the in-house P9010 but functionally you're getting the same layout. First crown position does quick-set hour hand with date correction. Second position for standard time setting. Smooth operation, no grinding, no weird resistance.

One thing that genuinely surprised me. The crystal clarity on this piece is exceptional. Sapphire sits so flush and clean over that camo dial — at certain angles you'd swear there's no glass there at all. Hard to capture on camera but in person it's immediately noticeable.

Bottom Line

So where does the VS Factory Panerai Submersible PAM00961 land? It's light. It's loud in the best way. Camo black dial with green lume is a combo that works day or night. All the classic Panerai elements are accounted for. Carbon case keeps the weight down despite the 47mm footprint.

If you want a rep Submersible that actually turns heads and doesn't kill your wrist after 8 hours — this is the one. Solid effort from VS on this ref.
