Alright let's talk about the VS Factory V2 version of the Panerai PAM00359. If you know anything about Panerai reps, you already know this ref. Besides the PAM441, the 359 is basically the best seller in the entire lineup. Not even close.

What Changed in V2?

We covered the PAM00359 before. The V2 upgrade is all about one thing — date adjustment. It now works exactly like gen. You quick-set the hour hand to change the date.

Old version? Pull the crown, spin it, date jumps. Dead giveaway if anyone who knows Panerai gets their hands on it. Now you rotate the hour hand, two full turns gets you one day forward. And here's the thing — if you overshoot, say you go past the 19th to the 20th, you can actually reverse it back. Super convenient. That's VS Factory's in-house movement doing its thing.

The Movement — This Is Why You Buy VS

The VS Factory PAM00359 runs their in-house P9000 clone. The biggest deal here: balance wheel sits at 7 o'clock, same as gen.

Every other rep movement out there — Shanghai-based, Tianjin-based, doesn't matter — they all put the balance wheel at either 11 o'clock or 6 o'clock. Neither matches gen. Overall movement finishing gets you about 95% of the way to gen. Really not much to complain about. The one thing — jewels. Gen uses real rubies, deep red color. The rep jewels run a bit lighter, slightly purplish. That's about it honestly.

One heads-up on the caseback. Factory ships it with a protective film that has crazy strong adhesive. When you peel it off there's gonna be glue residue on the display glass. Takes a while to clean off with a cloth. Not a dealbreaker but just know what you're getting into when you unbox it.

Case and Dial

44mm case, roughly 18mm thick. Classic Panerai proportions.

316L stainless steel with polished sides — looks great but yeah, it picks up desk diving scratches pretty easily. The dial is the signature sandwich construction. Two-and-a-half hand layout with a small seconds subdial. Clean. Simple. Very Panerai.

Sapphire crystal up front. Nothing to worry about there.

Strap Situation

Comes on a calfskin leather strap. Compared to other VS Panerai models this one's actually on the softer side out of the box. Still needs some break-in time but nothing terrible. The buckle is brushed steel with a pin closure, well finished.

Big plus — there's a quick-release system. Grab a toothpick, press the spring bar tab while pushing down, strap pops right off. Makes swapping straps a breeze.
