VS Factory Omega Seamaster 300 210.30.42.20.01.002 — Full Hands-On Review

So this is one I've been wanting to cover for a while. The VS Factory Omega Seamaster 300 NI Special Edition, ref 210.30.42.20.01.002. If you're not familiar with NI — it stands for an ocean conservation fund that Omega partnered with, and they released this special edition to celebrate that collaboration. In the rep community, this watch picked up the nickname "Seamaster Yacht" pretty quickly. You'll see why in a second.

Why "Yacht"?

The bezel. That's it. Instead of the standard ceramic insert you get on a regular Seamaster 300, this one uses a raised engraved bezel that looks a lot like what Rolex does on the Yacht-Master. Hence the name. It stuck.

Case diameter is 42mm — same as the standard SM300. The one I have here is the two-tone steel bracelet version, but there's a rubber strap option too if that's more your thing.

The Bezel Up Close

This is where the watch really separates itself from the regular 300. The bezel material is titanium alloy, not ceramic. All the markings are laser-engraved with a relief texture — genuinely three-dimensional. You can feel them with your fingernail. The hour markers on the inner ring have the same level of depth, and the lume pip sits recessed below the surface. VS nailed the layered construction here.

Dial: Matte Ceramic, No Date

Right, the dial. Ceramic, like the gen, but with a matte sandblasted finish instead of the glossy black you see on the standard SM300. Big visual difference in person — the matte surface catches light differently and gives the wave pattern way more depth. Hard to photograph, easy to appreciate on wrist.

No date window on this one. The regular 300 has a date at 6 o'clock, but the NI edition drops it entirely. Symmetrical dial, clean look. Same philosophy as a no-date Sub — less is more, and honestly it just looks better. Personal opinion, but most people in the community seem to agree.

The lollipop seconds hand in red is a nice touch. Matches the red "SEAMASTER" text on the dial. Keeps the whole design cohesive without being busy.

Caseback: Naiad Lock Done Right

316L stainless steel case. Solid caseback with an ocean wave texture engraved on it — the NI foundation logo sits in the center. Rated for 300m water resistance.

Now here's something worth talking about. VS replicated the Naiad Lock system on this watch. On a normal screw-down caseback, the engraving ends up at whatever angle the back stops at when fully tightened. Could be upside down, sideways, whatever. The Naiad Lock has an internal detent that locks the caseback at the correct orientation every time. The engraving is always straight.

VS actually engineered this into their version. There's a slot mechanism inside — the caseback will only lock into one position. So the engravings line up perfectly, every time you close it. If you ever see a "Seamaster Yacht" rep where the caseback logo is crooked? Something's off.

Movement: VS In-House 8806

Solid caseback means you can't see the movement during daily wear, but VS didn't cut corners. Pop the back off and you'll find their in-house 8806 clone — same unit they use in the regular SM300 builds.

How to spot a VS movement? Dead simple. Look for the double-trapezoid shock absorber — that's exclusive to VS. The shock absorber shape, the black balance wheel texture, the overall architecture, all match gen layout.

One thing to note though. The gen 8806 in this specific reference has no crown position detent (since there's no date to set). VS reused the standard SM300 movement which does have a date-setting position, so you'll feel an empty click when you pull the crown out to the first stop. Doesn't affect anything in daily use. Just something to be aware of if you're doing a side-by-side.

Crown & HEV

Left side: helium escape valve. Screw it down tight and forget about it. Right side: screw-down crown. Unscrew and wind clockwise to charge the mainspring. First pull position is the (empty) date detent. Pull again for time setting. Standard stuff. The screw-down design on both sides keeps the water resistance solid.

Bracelet & Diver Extension

Bracelet is the same spec as the standard SM300 — solid links, good weight, proper finishing. It's got the diver's extension clasp built in. Hit the PUSH button, the clasp opens up and extends so you can wear the watch over a wetsuit.

Quick tip on closing the extension: push the extension piece into the slot first, then press the PUSH button to lock it down. If you do it the other way around — press PUSH first, then try to slide the extension in — you'll scratch up the contact points over time. Small thing, but it matters if you want to keep the clasp looking clean.

Personally? I'd swap this bracelet for a black rubber strap in a heartbeat. Rubber is softer, more comfortable, and fits the sporty vibe of this watch better. But that's just me.

Lume

It's a dive watch so lume matters. And this thing is bright. Like, really bright. VS went with dual-color lume — the bezel pip glows green while the hands and indices glow a different shade. The minute hand and pip are matched so you can actually use them together.

Here's the functional bit: rotate the timing bezel and align the lume pip with the minute hand. Now you can read elapsed time off the bezel markings in the dark. Or set it up as a countdown — line up the 10-minute marker with the minute hand and you've got a ten-minute timer. Not just for show.

Final Thoughts

The VS Factory Seamaster 300 210.30.42.20.01.002 NI edition is one of their strongest builds. The titanium relief bezel, the matte no-date dial, the Naiad Lock caseback, the properly cloned 8806 — it all comes together. Compared to the standard SM300 rep, this special edition is cleaner, more refined, and just looks better on wrist. If you're deciding between the regular 300 and this one, the Yacht version is the way to go.
