VS Factory Omega Seamaster 300 210.30.42.20.03.001 — Hands-On Review

I've got a thing for the Seamaster 300. Goes back a long way actually — my old man had a gen Omega Seamaster from the 90s, still got it right here on my wrist sometimes. The seahorse caseback logo is still crisp after all these years. So yeah, when VS Factory dropped their version of the new Seamaster 300, I had to get my hands on one immediately.

The VS Factory Omega Seamaster 300 210.30.42.20.03.001 hit the market late last year and started shipping this year. The gen? Good luck finding one at an Omega AD in mainland China. Zero discount, full retail, and the blue dial version — which is what we're looking at today — is basically impossible to walk in and buy.

Three Strap Options

VS Factory offers three strap choices for this ref: the steel tank-style bracelet, a rubber strap, and a NATO. Different price points for each.

My honest recommendation? Go rubber. The blue rubber strap on the blue dial looks stunning, and comfort-wise it's a completely different watch. This thing on the steel bracelet weighs over 190g — that's roughly 40g heavier than a Sub on bracelet. You feel it. Swap to rubber and it's night and day.

Now about that bracelet. I compared it side by side with the 90s gen Seamaster I mentioned. Twenty-plus years apart and honestly? The design hasn't changed much. Same basic DNA. I'll say it straight — the steel bracelet gives the watch a slightly dated look. Not everyone will agree but that's how I see it.

The Dial and Bezel — Both Ceramic

Ceramic bezel insert on a rep is nothing new in 2024, we've seen it on tons of builds. What caught my attention here is the dial. VS Factory claims the dial is also ceramic. That's rare. Ceramic bezels, ceramic cases — sure, the rep game has been there for a while. But a ceramic dial? The Seamaster 300 is one of the first reps to pull that off and it's a genuine flex.

Bezel action is decent. Click sound is on the crispy side, tactile feel is okay but won't blow you away if you're used to handling a VSF Sub. Fair point though — the gen Seamaster 300 bezel isn't exactly butter smooth either from what I remember. So it's actually pretty consistent with retail.

Movement — Let's Clear This Up

Okay this one's important. Don't get fooled by sellers telling you otherwise.

The VS Factory Seamaster 300 uses a Seagull 2824 movement. Not a clone movement. Not VS Factory's own in-house caliber. A Seagull 2824.

I know some of you are going to push back on that. "Doesn't VS use clone movements in everything?" Almost everything, yes. The Seamaster 150 and Seamaster 600 both run VS clone calibers. But the 300 is the exception. Here's why — the date adjustment on this ref works exactly like gen. Second crown position changes the date, third position sets the time. No quick-set hour hand needed. The Seagull 2824 handles this natively so VS had no reason to develop a dedicated clone movement just for this one ref. Makes sense when you think about it.

Even without a clone movement the finishing is legit. We're talking 95% accuracy to gen on the overall build. The Geneva stripes on the caseback side, the brushing — all done properly. Both crystal surfaces front and back are sapphire with AR coating. The display caseback looks clean.

Bottom Line

The VS Factory Omega Seamaster 300 210.30.42.20.03.001 is a solid piece. Build quality is right up there and it actually comes in a few hundred cheaper than the popular Sub reps. If you're tired of seeing Submariners everywhere and want something with real wrist presence, this Seamaster 300 in blue deserves a serious look.
