VS Factory Panerai LUMINOR 1950 PAM00438 — Full Ceramic, V2 Build

Hey guys, vsfwatcheshub here. Got the VS Factory PAM00438 on the wrist today and wanted to break it down for you.

This one's the full ceramic version. If you already know the PAM00441, think of this as its tougher sibling — same DNA, different execution. The 441 comes on a leather strap. The 438? All ceramic. Case, bracelet, bridge guards, everything. And VS has bumped this to their V2 batch, so what you're getting now is a noticeably refined piece compared to earlier runs.

The Bracelet and Clasp Situation

Full ceramic bracelet with a titanium deployant. One thing I noticed right away — the pushbutton on the clasp has an incredibly short throw. Like almost no resistance at all. The butterfly clasp itself is on the shorter side too which honestly makes it sit way more comfortably on the wrist than most Panerai reps I've handled.

My wrist is about 16cm and this thing fits perfectly. No overhang, no awkward gaps. For a 44mm Panerai that's saying something.

Clone P9001 Movement

So here's where VS really earns their reputation. The 438 runs a clone P9001 and the replication level on this movement is genuinely above 99% — I know everyone throws that number around but with VS Panerai it's actually justified. The movement architecture matches gen spec for spec. This isn't some decorated Asian movement pretending to be something else. It's a proper clone.

438 vs 441 — What's Actually Different

People in the rep community keep calling the 438 an "upgraded 441" and... yeah, sort of. Slap a leather strap on this and you basically have a 441. Visually they're nearly identical.

But there's one major difference most people miss.

The bezel assembly and crystal on the 438 can be unscrewed and removed. You can literally twist off the front glass. The 441 doesn't do that.

Once you pop it open you'll see gaskets on both the crystal and the case — dual waterproof seals. The machining around the edges is clean, no burrs or rough spots. VS clearly put effort into the finishing here and it shows. The crystal also has a very slight dome to it, matching the gen retail piece exactly.

Internally the movement has minor differences from the 441 as well. You'd need to crack the caseback to spot them but they're there.
