Alright let's get into this one. The VS Factory Panerai Luminor PAM01118 dropped as part of Panerai's 2020 lineup and honestly, it's one of the more visually striking reps I've handled. Green lume absolutely everywhere — indices, hands, bezel edge, crown, bridge guard. The whole watch just screams lume. And that's kind of the point with this ref.

The Carbon Fiber Case

So 1118 runs a carbon fiber case. Panerai's been pushing carbon as a case material for a while now and there's a decent lineup already — PAM00979, PAM00976, PAM00661, PAM00616, bunch of others. Thing about carbon fiber is every single case has slightly different grain patterns. Not dramatically different but unique enough that no two are identical. On this 1118 the main case body has a horizontal grain. Flip over to the bridge guard and mid-section, that switches to vertical. Ear lugs go back to horizontal again.

VS has been doing carbon Panerais for a while at this point. The material work is mature — no complaints there.

That Sunburst Black Dial Though

Sandwich dial construction. Classic Luminor stuff — top layer with cutout indices, lume layer underneath sandwiched between them. A black sunburst in the Luminor line? Pretty rare honestly. The texture is super fine and crisp, and VS nailed the finishing on this one.

Bottom side isn't carbon fiber. It's stainless steel with black PVD coating, engraved with "70 YEARS" — Panerai's way of advertising a 70-year warranty. Bit of a marketing gimmick if we're being real. Nobody's wearing any watch for 70 years. But hey, it's on there.

14mm Thick. That's It.

OK this is a big deal for Panerai guys. The VS Factory PAM01118 sits at just 14mm thick. If you know Panerai you know most of their watches run 16-17mm — chunky boys. Shaving 2-3mm off changes the wrist presence completely. I'd say wrists down to about 15.5cm can pull this off comfortably. No upper limit obviously.

Panerai has always been known for being fat on the wrist. This one breaks that pattern. Velcro strap, and when you look at it from the side it's genuinely thin for a Luminor. Probably the most wearable in the entire series.

P9000 Clone Movement

VS's in-house P9000 inside. Quick rundown on the functions: manual wind clockwise. Pull crown to first position — independent hour hand adjustment. When the hour hand hits 10 o'clock it kicks the date over, and you can reverse-jump to set the date too. Pull to second position for normal time setting. Small seconds at 9. Solid clone movement, been around long enough to be reliable.

Lume Shot

Saved the best for last. Kill the lights and this thing glows like crazy. Every green element we talked about — indices, hands, crown guard, bridge — all lit up bright and even. The dial printing and even the strap stitching carry some lume too. Fair warning though, strap stitching lume degrades over time with daily wear. Can't really avoid that. But the dial and case elements? Consistent, bright, no dead spots.
